Description:
A photographic slide in a small cardboard Kodachrome frame (off white with red and yellow corner trim). The frame is labeled "Mendenhall Glacier 9—17—67" in handwriting. The image shows a narrow portion of the Mendenhall Lake between a near shore at center in the foreground, probably under the visitor's center, judging from the direction of the image capture, and the glacier itself at the far shore. The near shore is rocky with bits of grass. The glacier and its scarred blue—white surface occupies a very wide portion of the far shore, the formation not having receded yet to the extent it has today. The surface is dark with the remains of grit and erosion. Behind it at left, two long rounded slopes with square—like peaks extend to the center of the image. The text "7 FEB 68P2" is printed in red ink on the frame at the upper edge, possibly signifying date or series of development.
