Description:
Black and white photographic print of nine men standing on the deck of a ship. All men are in military garb. A mountainous landscape is seen in the background. There is a rope fence on either side of the deck. On the deck floor there is a part of a white number, possibly the top of a "1". Image has a white boarder around all four sides. Back has two sections of black paper and tape where the photograph was once attached to an album page. One located in the upper proper left corner and one located in the lower proper right corner.
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
