Description:
Black and white photographic print of two men sitting on a ship's deck. The helm of the ship is seen in the background to the proper right. Both men are sitting on a set of two steps on a blanket. Both men are wearing shorts. Neither is wearing a shirt. The man to the proper right is sitting with his legs apart, elbows on his knees and hands held together in front of his body. The man to the proper left is leaning back on his right arm. His left foot is up on the first step, while his right leg is stretched out on to the main deck. He holds a cigarette in his left hand. The man on the proper right is barefoot, while the man to the proper left is wearing socks and loafers. Image has a white boarder around all four sides. Back has a section of black paper and tape where the photograph was once attached to an album page located at approximately center. Handwritten text in black ink along the upper edge reads: JIM HARTLEY \ ECK GUERIN". Handwritten text in black ink in the upper proper right corner reads: "P—510".
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
