Black and white photographic print of two men on the deck of a boat while a third man is lowered on a suspended stretcher. The man on deck closest to the pulley system and stretcher is squatting down. The other man is standing and holding the ropes for the pulley system. The man in the stretcher has his arms folded on his chest. Snow covered mountains are in the background. An overturned liferaft is on the deck of the ship. Image has a white boarder around all four sides. Back has a section of black paper and tape where the photograph was once attached to an album page located at approximately center. There is a circular stamp with text reading: "PASSED B U BASE 1733 ARM EXA". Along the upper edge at approximately center, handwritten in black ink is text reading: "P—510".
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
