James Joseph (Jimmie) Mattern was an American aviator who made several attempts to circumnavigate the globe. On one attempt his plane went down between Siberia and Alaska.

The album belonged to William G. Brian Harland. He was a mechanic for Alaska—Washington Airways and Alaska Southern Airways. He was based out of Juneau.
