A: Invitation to the 1959 Inauguration. White piece of paper folded into quarters. Inside is black typed text reading: " The Inaugural Committee \ requests the honor of your presence \ at the \ Inauguration \ of \ Governor William Allen Egan \ and \ Secretary of State Hugh Joseph Wade \ Saturday, the Seventeenth of January \ One thousand nine hundred and fifty—nine \ Juneau, Alaska". In the lower proper right corner is black typed text reading: "Inaugural Committee \ Chairman \ Felix J Coner". In the lower proper left corner is black typed text reading: "Honorary Inaugural Committee \ Co—Chairmen \ Helen A. Fischer \ Alex Miller". Near the top edge is a gold seal illustration which shows both the flag of the United States and the Alaskan flag inside a double circle. Text within the lines of the double circle reads: "INAUGURAION OF \ GOVERNOR AND SECRETARY OF STATE". Between the two flags is a star with the number 49 inside of it. Below the flag is text reading: "ALASKA 1959". Below the circle is a bow with the names "EGAN" and "WADE" on it.

B: Envelope that held the invitation (A), response envelope (C), response card (D) and notification of changes (E). Envelope was sealed and then opened along the upper edge. The sender is indicated in the upper proper right corner with black typed text reading: "The Inaugral Committee \ Box 2601 \ Juneau, Alaska". The envelope is address in handwritten black text to "Renee Guerin \ 335 West 76th, Apt. 2A \ New York City, N.Y." The postage stamp is located in the upper proper left corner. It is a blue ink stamp featuring the state of Alaska, a mountainous landscape, the north star and the big dipper. Text on the stamp reads: "U.S. AIR \ MAIL \ 7 c" (the "c" is the symbol for cents). Text along the lower edge of the stamp reads: "ALASKA STATEHOOD 1959". The edges of the stamp are scalloped. A black ink stamp consisting of text reading "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" and four horizontal lines, two above and two below the text, crosses over the lower third of the blue postage stamp. A post mark was stamped between the postage stamp and the sender's information. The post mark is a black ink circle around black ink text reading "JUNEAU \ JAN 3 \ 9 AM \ 1959 \ ALASKA". Verso is blank.

C: Return envelope for invitation response card (D). Small off—white envelope. Front has typed black text, centered on the face, reading: "AIR MAIL \ The Inaugural Committee \ Box 2601 \ Juneau, Alaska". Verso is blank. Envelope was sealed and reopened along the uppper edge.

D: Invitation response card for the 1959 Inauguration in Juneau, Alaska. Front has black typed text reading: "IMPORTANT!!!!! \ Please complete the reverse side of this card and return it \ AT ONCE via AIR MAIL, if it your intention to attend \ the Inaugural Ceremonies for Governor Egan and Secretary \ of State Wade. We need this information to insure that \ everyone attending the ceremonies will be adeqately \ housed. If it is your intention to stay with personal friends \ and this has been arranged, please advise us of the details \ under Item 5. Some housing will, of necessity, have to be \ provided in homes throughout the community. For this \ there will be a nominal charge. \ INAUGURAL COMMITTEE \ BOX 2061 \ JUNEAU, ALASKA". The back has a five part form for the addressee to fill out including: name, mailing address, mode of transportation to Juneau, date of scheduled arrival, date of scheduled departure, and type of housing accommodation required.

E: Strip of paper with blue typed text reading: "Due to the illness of Governor Egan the Inaugural ceremony has been postponed \ until February 7th."
