Fire Call list...sirens were on little towers made just for them. Used until pagers came in during the late 70's or early 80's. 5—2 was Brians, over on 8th and C street. To set it off, you pulled a little red box with a toggle. Once, a kid was swept down Gold Creek, and Brian and his friend witnessed it. The friend pulled the toggle and the boy was saved, but suffered a personality change and was ostracized by the other children.
Downtown made a sound like "HO!!"
High school area made a sound like "RUMPF!"
The order you heard these depended on where you were located relative to them. Brian saw a raven knocked off a telephone wire once from the siren.
Brian took his first news photo in 1967, but it wasn't used until 20 years later. Fairbanks flood…Chena River overflowing onto airport road near where they were living. Amos was up there carving two poles. IN 6th grade he built his first darkroom.
