One (1) white paper envelope commemorating the admission of Alaska into statehood.
On the proper right is a black and white illustration of the state of Alaska, a portrait of William H. Seward, and a totem pole. Text reads "First Day of Issue \ WILLIAM H. SEWARD, NEGOTIATED THE \ PURCHASE OF ALASKA FROM \ RUSSIA IN 1867 \ Commemorating \ THE ADMISSION OF \ ALASKA \ TO STATEHOOD \ PRESIDENT DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER \ SIGNED ALASKA STATEHOOD BILL \ JULY 7, 1958".
At center is a black circular postmark with the text "JUNEAU \ JAN 3 \ 9 AM \ 1959 \ ALASKA". Below the postmark is text typed with a typewriter reading: "Stephen Marcus \ 909 Roosevelt Ave. \ Springfield 9, Mass."
In the upper proper left corner is a commemorative postage stamp. It is printed with blue ink and features the state of Alaska, the big dipper and north start, with a mountainous landscape in the background. Text on the stamp reads: "U.S. AIR \ MAIL \ 7 c \ ALASKA STATEHOOD * 1959". The "c" is the symbol for cents. Below the postage stamp is a text reading "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" and four horizontal black lines. The top two lines overlap the blue postage stamp.
Verso is blank. It has the envelope flap which is unsealed. The adhesive on the flap does appear as though it was sealed previously.

Stephen Marcus received this envelope when he was 13 years old as a part of his stamp collection. Him and his family were living in Springfield, Massachusetts at that time.
