Scope & Content:
Certificate printed in black on off—white paper, with decorative border and specifics handwritten in blank fields. Circular seal embossed in lower proper right quadrant. Certificate reads: "This will certify that Floyd Dryden has satisfactorily completed the required courses of study and professional training for teaching and that he is hereby granted this First Grade Normal School Certificate which authorizes him to teach in the common schools in any county in the State of Idaho for a period of three years from date, in accordance with the state law and the rules of the State Board of Education." Signed by O.M. Elliott, President of Lewiston State Normal School, and Evan Evans, for the State Board of Education. Countersigned by E.A. Bryan, Commissioner of Education. Two vertical creases across certificate from prior foldings. Handwritten on verso along proper right edge: "Registered for use in Lewis Co., Idaho, 9—27—1920. [Norma???] P. Wilson, Co. Supt."
