Scope & Content:
Small dark brown book titled in gold on spine "METALURGISTS AND CHEMISTS' HANDBOOK / LIDDELL". Written inside cover "S.B. Combest, Treadwell, Alaska, Aug 8, 1916". Also note from United States Bureau of Mines librarian in July 1980. Also written in pencil, on fly leaf; "Left Seattle June 22, 1918 — SS Spokane / Arrv. at Juneau June 26, 1918 / Treadwell June 27, 1918". Book printed 1916 and is first edition of six hundred three (603) pages. Formerly 85.17.11.

In 1980, 12 books loaned for exhibit at Last Chance Mining Museum to be returned (according to hand written notes by M.J. Mattson, Librarian) when exhibit dismantled. However, memo from CBJ said items/objects…offered as "free" & unrestricted gift from US Bureau of Mines. All items access as 85.17. As per phone call of 3/99 to now BLM — 3 books belonging to S.B. Combest (ca.1918) & plant manager of Cyanide Plant at Treadwell donated. Balance returned 4/20/99 by W. Janes. All #s to be deassessioned.
