Title:
Postcard: Miner's Lamp Poem
Date:
04/08/1932
Scope & Content:
Vertical black and white postcard with an image of two miners at the top. Below the image is a poem titled "Miner's Lights" by Helen Kasalica the poem reads "Twinkle, twinkle, little lights, Miners going home at nights. Shining lights from every head, Guiding feet that feel like lead. Down the mountain side they come, Tired and weary, everyone. Hands and faces worn with toil, Digging gold from out the soil. Storm or sunshine, wind or rain, Digging gold for richer men's gain, Just like soldier's braving death, Dangers lurking, right and left, Facing hardships, day by day, Once slip, with their lives they pay. Someone, waiting at the door For the light which shines no more. Down the mountain side they come, Brave men! Heroes! every one. Guide them safely, little lights, Through the dangers of the nights; Make their pathway bright and gay, Cheer them on their homeward way!" Beneath the poem in parentheses "Copyright, April 8, 1932." Large gray letters on the back read "POST CARD" beneath that "this side for address only."
