Scope & Content:
Certificate printed in black on stiff, off—white paper, with decorative border and specifics handwritten in blank fields. Circular seal embossed in lower proper right quadrant. Certificate reads: "This is to certify, That Thomas Floyd Dryden having filed in my office evidence of good moral character and personal fitness, is hereby granted this Temporary Elementary Certificate which entitles him to teach in the Elementary Schools, grades one to nine, inclusive, of the State of Washington, until June 30, 1925. This Certificate is granted upon the following evidence of ability to teach, viz.: Diploma from Lewiston State Normal." Signed by Josephine Corliss Preston (Superintendent of Public Instruction) and Rose R. Fowler (Secretary, State Board of Examiners) in Olympia, WA on August 12, 1924. Two vertical creases across certificate from prior foldings. Written on verso at top: "Having satisfied myself that Thomas Floyd Dryden is a person of good moral character and personal fitness, I have this 16 day of Aug., 1924, registered this certificate for use in Asotin County." Signed by Kathryn Pharis Boggan, County Superintendent of Schools.
