"Juneau, Alaska, Dec. 19 1894
J.T. WIlcont
Carson City, Nevada
Dear Jack
I have just come in from Yakobi Island. Fifteen days on the bay. No picnic this time of th year. Going to start back in few days. My mail had been sent out by Indians five days before I got in. I will get it on my return; but will have no chance to answer it all next May or June I suppose there is a letter in it from you so I will drop you a line and send you some Juneau papers. After I get back I will be isolated from the balance of the world for four or five months perhaps longer. I hope that I will be able to put some men to work after next summer. My prospect continues; but I do not know yet what I have got a mine. So far I have been able to pound out enough in a hand mortar to buy bears and powder."

Back page of letter reads:
"W.T. Reed died last Sept. He was found dead in his bed. He was about to store as normal the day before, went to sleep and quietly passed away.
Dan Campbell died last fall.
Juneau is improving fast. Two new wharves and many fine buidings went up last summer. Electric Lights and water works in the city now. You would hardly know the place now. Two steamship lines run between here and the sound twice a month. Alaska is slowly comming to the front. Joe Burdreau made eighteen thousand dollars in the Yukon country last summer. One man made thirty thousand then. Good strikes reported from the westward. Geo Wheelock is married. A half a million dollar sale was made in the Basin last summer. Must close now. With kind regard I remain
Truly yours
JnoDix
