Description:
Green and white painted wood oar with row lock. Leather row lock holder attached to oar with bronze brads. Galvanized metal closed rowlock with "V" embossed on rowlock. Green oar handle; white shaft and blade. "BARBARA V" stenciled in 1—inch letters on paddle blade. Probably oak.
Notes:
Oar used with an 8' skiff made by Thomas S. Parke. Skiff used as a tender from Parke's boat the "Barbara V" which he owned 1946—1967. Green—handled white oars were the standard paint job for all of Parke's oars on both this and his later boats. Gray oars were used only during duck hunting to minimize visibility.
