Blue & White Ceramic Platter From Baranof Hotel

Description:
Oval platter with scalloped light blue rim featuring dark blue line separating rim from flat bottom and blue stamped insignia in center. Insignia features double—headed stylized bird with crown and outstretched wings. Tail and talons become part of foliate scrollwork surrounding the bird. On its chest, initial "B". Back of platter is white with off—center blue stamp: 3GG SYRACUSE CHINA USA". Platter has shallow ring foot.
Notes:
Donated by Cecilia Kunz, Tlingit elder, whose mother was present at Alaska Native Brotherhood dedication of Baranof Hotel. Cecilia herself had flu that day. Cecilia states there was never a sign at Baranof discriminating against Indian people, They did, however, had a beauty parlor that catered only to Juneau women.
