Miner's powder punch

Description:
Brass awl type powder punch. Object is constructed out of a brass rod. One end is sharpened to a point. The other end is curled around to make a closed eye. There is a slight bend in the shaft of the rod from 2.0 to 3.0 inches from the tip. Rod is made from approximately 0.3125 inch stock.
Notes:
Loan L85.13 was donated during loan renewals in 2005.
Object was on exhibit in the "Early Days" exhibit case, permanent mining exhibit, Murray Gallery from 1985— January, 2008.
Object was used to punch a hole in a charge of blasting powder so that a fuze could be inserted prior to blasting.
