Title:
Snettisham Transmission Wire Fragment
Date:
04/16/2008
Description:
Aluminum high tension electrical transmission wire.
Long fragment of aluminum transmission wire. Object is coupled at the center. At each end, braided aluminum strands of the transmission wire go into a solid aluminum collar which is connected to a flat plate of aluminum. The two flat aluminum plates are bolted together with four bolts. There is an oval steel ring at center, coming out of the longer of the two arms. The object has been much distorted by effects of the avalanche. Written on the longer arm of the object is the following: "ALCOA 8130 116HV." Also on the longer arm, some of the braided transmission wire has been folded back over the collar.
Notes:
This object is a connector that held together two pieces of transmission wire. Note that the aluminum plates have been severely damaged by the effects of the avalanche. Workmen cut the two ends off when they were replacing the wire.
