Title:
Aluminum Transmission Tower Fragment
Date:
04/16/2008
Description:
Tower lattice fragment.
Green, aluminum fragment of the lattice work from one of the destroyed Snettisham transmission towers. Fragment is a piece of aluminum angle iron, painted green, with a cross section looking like a "v." Edges are ragged where they have been torn apart by force. On the back of the object is printed the following: "TL 204."
Notes:
This aluminum slat came from one of the towers damaged during the April 2008 avalanche that cut off connection to the Snettisham Hydro power. The towers were constructed of aluminum angle iron. They are a "lattice" type tower where there are 4 main posts that connect to an anchor in a concrete pier. The main posts are kept rigid by webbing which consists of a series of 3—5' long criss crossed aluminum angle pieces such as this. They are crisscrossed at 45 degree angles all the way up the structure.

Note that the object has been sheared at each end, and separated from the rest of the tower by the force of the avalanche.
