Description:
Wooded box with metal hinges. On both the interior and exterior side of the box lid, there is an embossed illustration of a woman smelling a rose and surrounded by a lattice entwined with roses. Illustration is colored with brown, red and green. Side edges of box lid and base have an embossed/burnt geometric design of slanted rectangles. Sides of box base have a wood grain designed embossed on them. Bottom of base is blank, smooth wood. Interior of box blank, smooth wood. Box is held together with metal nails. Two metal hinges are also held on to box base and lid with three metal nails each. Hinges move around one nail.
Notes:
Items are from the estate of Virginia Sutton White. The Sutton Family lived in Juneau between 1915—1920 (approximately). Virginia's father was Marion Sylvester Sutton, the architect of the Juneau Public School finished in 1920. Marion Sylvester Sutton died in 1935. Virginia Sutton White died in 1995, leaving her estate to her step—daughter, Mrs. Kalaas (wife of donor).
