Whetstone (knife sharpening stone). A piece of plastic or wax covered paper that contains text is attached to top and sides of stone. Top reads: "COMPLIMENTS OF THE / JUNEAU FURNITURE CO. / WE CARRY EVERYTHING IN THE WAY OF / HOUSEHOLD FURNISHINGS / GIVE US A TRIAL / Cor. 3rd and Seward Sts., JUNEAU, ALASKA". Text reading: "BROWN & BIGELOW, ST. PAUL" is located on the part of the paper found along one side. Verso is blank, uncovered stone.
Notes:
Items are from the estate of Virginia Sutton White. The Sutton Family lived in Juneau between 1915—1920 (approximately). Virginia's father was Marion Sylvester Sutton, the architect of the Juneau Public School finished in 1920. Marion Sylvester Sutton died in 1935. Virginia Sutton White died in 1995, leaving her estate to her step—daughter, Mrs. Kalaas (wife of donor).
