Date:
8/12/1951 0:00:00
Description:
Red, white, blue, and gold mold—made hard cardboard soap box derby helmet with small bell, knob top, and radiating molded seams reminiscent of baseball cap. Four holes with metal grommets on each side. Blue, yellow, and whitle decal on front feature a globe with car on top, ring around that reads: "THE GREATEST AMATEUR RACING EVENT IN THE WORLD" with yellow eagle above and "1951 SOAP BOX DERBY" at top. Below, ribbon scrollwork reads: " TURRET TOP BODY BY FISHER" & "CHEVROLET" logo. Inside is stiff cardboard and fabric headband riveted to helmet by metal tension strips. Cotton twill chin strap with piping on edges and metal double back buckle at one end. Painted exterior differs from local helmets in glossiness, blue top, two white stars on upper sides, white chevrons, and gold spray behind decal.
