Paddle. Five—foot, wooden, canoe paddle with no finish. Blade 6.75 inches by 28 inches. Shaft is 1.125 inches in diameter. Oak.
Notes:
From collection of 30—40 oars and paddles beach combed by Thomas S. Parke. Beach combing was a popular activity by Parke, his family and charter clients. Oars and paddles found along the beach and in tidal driftwood were prized and always toted home. The collection was stored between the rafters above the basement workshop. Any of the collection that was needed was renovated and put back into service.
Paddle washed with warm water and dish soap, rinsed with tap water and dried prior to delivery to museum.
