Description:
Framed, watercolor on paper painting of a "Public School" building as viewed from an angle. Building is three stories designated by window rows and appears to be made of stone. Front entrance has an enclosed portico and two people (one man and one woman) are walking up steps towards it. The visible side also has an entrance with an open portico with on man standing near the doors. A lawn and side walk surround the building. Trees in background. Along lower proper left edge of painting reads "M.S. Sutton Architect, / Juneau Alaska". Frame is make of wood, which probably was once painted gold. Verso is blank.
Notes:
Items are from the estate of Virginia Sutton White. The Sutton Family lived in Juneau between 1915—1920 (approximately). Virginia's father was Marion Sylvester Sutton, the architect of the Juneau Public School finished in 1920. Marion Sylvester Sutton died in 1935. Virginia Sutton White died in 1995, leaving her estate to her step—daughter, Mrs. Kalaas (wife of donor).
