Drawing, charcoal, unframed Off white mat 2".
Woman is oriented to the PL of the drawing.
She is wearing a hat that is fitted over her head. The hat is made of dentalium, abalone and trade beads. Bands of the same material come down on the sides next to her ears and hang to the bottom of the drawing. On the front of the hat is a square object.
The robe has a thick black stripe next to the bands from the hat, then a thin white stripe, then a thick gray stripe before the design starts. The design of the robe is only visible on the PR portion of the drawing.
The womans face has wrinkles around her mouth and eyes.
Notes:
The donor provided this information: "My mother Mamie Feusi, was born in Douglas in 1906, and since her father traded there in Native artifacts, I'm sure she would personally have seen Native elders wearing items like thosein the pictures. I believe she adn my father Marcus Jensen probably purchased the pictures soon after they were made in the late 50s, and displayed them in their home till their deaths in 2001."

The headress in the image is made from glass beads and dentalium shells. On the front are squares of California abalone. The hat is in the collection of the Alaska State Museum. It was acquired from the estate of Jiyal.axch or BB, after Berners Bay, her home, also called Mrs. Berners Bay Jim. The woman in this image MAY be BB. There is only one known photo of her and this doesn't look similar. BB, also Kaanaax Tlaa, was of the Lukaax.adi clan from the village of Yandeist'akye near Haines. From the Marks family.
