Description:
Half—length portrait of Joseph Juneau on dark background. Fair skin, brown eyes, white hair, and moustache. Dressed in brown jacket with only top button fastened, white collar, and knotted tie with bright stud. Dark vest and gold chain with ornament are visible under jacket. Ornate plaster and wood frame with antique gold finish and glass.
Inscription: "Joe. Juneau" upper left, in red and tan oil paint.
"Chr Krogh 1901" signature in lower right, in red and tan oil paint.
"Joseph Juneau / December 1826—March 1899" engraved on brass plaque at bottom center
Notes:
Image painted from photo, 2 years after Juneau's death. It used to hang in Assembly Chambers in 1950's—1970s.
Krogh arrived in Juneau in 1885 according to T. Davis's "Looking Back on Juneau".
