Notes:
Rationale for At the Glacier
Constance Baltuck has been painting and producing artwork for over twenty years. She is a creative and prolific painter. In the last three years she has been involved in three local exhibits in Juneau and has become a co—founder of the Franklin Street Gallery, a local Juneau gallery, where she also shows her work. In the summer of 2010 she was selected as an artist in residence through the National Park Service's program at the Petrified Forest National Park.
At the Glacier is simply a beautiful, sensitive painting of the Mendenhall Glacier. Baltuck gives us a summer day in Juneau and shows us the face of the glacier in a soft palette with greens and yellows in the land mass to warm the 'ice (cold) blues' that we typically find in glacier paintings. Baltuck's creative work interprets the glacier's on—going retreat in the newly exposed land.
