Description:
Several buildings on brown shore extend from left to right. Several buildings at center in red flames. Wharf and some roof areas defined by surface mounted metal work. Foreground is water represented with smokey—blue glass. Two pilings at center & right have wood grain suggested by etching on reverse surface. Brown and green foothills rise to grey and blue mountains with white and grey snow caps. Sky is grey and light blue. Simple mahogany frame. Handblown glass from West Germany in "antique" and "flashed" types and hand—cast glass from Oregon. Traditional leading as well as copper rod, sheet and foil overlays.

Notes:
Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee from John Paber and Bruce Elliott of the Glassworks. Depicts Treadwell Mine from the water, by the loading dock of Treadwell wharf during the October 10, 1926 fire. Strong winds spread the fire quickly through East Douglas and destroyed most of the mine. Located in Centennial Hall between 1987 and 1988. Installed in Douglas Library as permanent artwork with Library 1% for art in 1989.
