Small Crucible
A: Crucible (metal)
Short hollow metal column. Tapers at bottom. Fits inside Crucible holder bottom.
B: Crucible holder (bottom)
Round wooden column. With solid base, but no top. From top down about two—thirds of the center is hollowed out. Tapers at bottom of center. On bottom says: USBM / 20580 (carved into wood and covered in red color).
C: Crucible holder (top)
Round wooden top for crucible holder bottom. Top is wider then bottom. Bottom tappers to fit into the metal crucible. Fits into crucible holder bottom.

Notes:
Used for high temperature chemical analysis because platinum doesn't react with many other naturally occurring mineral specimens. It has a high melting point and is non—reactive.
The wooden case is said to hold crucible when not in use, it also serves to help the platinum retains its shape.
