Description:
Predominantly in blue and pink tones. Composition is aerial view of two aircraft flying over mountainous region and large body of water. Plane in foreground in left side of painting is a twin— engine plane with body and wing tip floats (Grumman "Goose") and appears to fly in direction of viewer. In middle ground a radial engine float plane is in upper right corner, flying to viewer's right. In distance below, a vessel circles point of land extended into water, which reflects clouded pink sky of sunset or sunrise. Bald eagle is visible in distance in lower right, just above tree tops. Both planes are blue with yellow trim. Framed in metal frame. CBJ #04570.
Inscription: "@1979 H. Bonnet & G.J.B." in lower right corner in light blue paint.
Notes:
Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee. Aircraft in painting are Grumman Corp's amphibian ("Goose") & Bellanca "Pacemaker" (locally nicknamed "Shakey Jake"). Painting is tribute to Alaska Coastal Airlines which operated in Juneau. Setting is lake on Admiralty Island. Stolen from Exhibit at airport ca. 1990, returned. Security clips added. Returned for Airport use, January, 1993 in old terminal.
1997 — Removed from airport, touched up by Herb Bonnet (added light on land), photographed and printed as color—photolithographs for sale by Museum and Herb Bonnet. See doc. file. Returned to Airport Departure Lounge Exhibit 8/98.
