Description:
A is album page. B to I are black and white photographs, 4.75 by 3.5 inches. All photos horizontally oriented unless otherwise noted.

A — Black paper album page with two holes proper right side. Four photos affixed to front; four photos affixed to back. Captions printed in white ink beside photos to which they refer; "Paul" printed in white ink, lower proper right corner, next to number "8" handwritten in pencil.

B — Photograph, flat expanse of completed rock fill. Tops of connected pilings visible beyond fill. Three houses (two in upper proper right quadrant, one in upper proper left corner) on pilings in background. Door and one window (with white curtains) can be seen on proper left house. Caption below photo reads "New Foundations".

C — Photograph, similar to B but closer view. A man (William L. Paul, Jr.) in dark suit, long coat, and light—colored hat stands with hands in pockets on rock fill near proper left end of photo, facing photographer. One building next to him at proper left edge of photo; two others beyond network of pilings, toward proper right. Mountains on Douglas Island faintly visible in background. Caption below photo reads "Wm. L. Paul Jr".

D — Photograph, men working on rock fill. On proper right side of photo are wood pilings supporting buildings, with buildings extending from proper right edge across top of photo. On proper left side is rock fill sloping toward the photographer; five men in hats, some holding shovels, appear to be working in various locations on the slope. Caption under photo and extending under E reads "For Firewood".

E — Photograph, two men in hats, button—down shirts, and dark—colored pants working among wood pilings and rock fill. Man closer to camera has his back three—quarters toward photographer; he rests left hand on a crosscut saw and, with his right, holds the handle of presumably another tool. Second man is facing photographer but turning head in proper right direction, toward boards and pilings. Both men lean forward. (For caption, see D.)

F — Photograph, flat expanse of rock fill in foreground, approximately three buildings across photo in background. Four men in front of buildings at proper left side of image, two closer to photographer and the other two directly behind them. Front man on proper right wears white shirt and faces toward proper left; front man on proper left holds a shovel and has his back to photographer. Back men both appear to be looking at man with shovel.

G — Photograph, flat expanse of rock fill in foreground, two buildings (house on proper right with white curtains in window) on partially exposed pilings in background. Rock fill slopes downward away from photographer, under buildings. Dump truck with tipped bed facing proper left is backed up to top edge of slope; a man stands between truck bed and photographer with his back to the camera.

H — Photograph, view from across road (Willoughby Avenue) toward Village. Rock fill under most houses, though some (particularly two nearest photographer, at proper right and proper left edges) still have exposed pilings. White house in background with dark car, facing proper right, parked in front of it. Hillside visible behind houses.

I — Photograph, flat expanse of rock fill, four houses across background with no pilings visible, mountains on Douglas Island can be seen behind houses. Two proper right buildings are light—colored; two proper left buildings are dark. Caption under photo reads "Eastern Half Completed @ March 15".
