Set of seven (7) sample postcards from box (2014.11.034 A—B) used at Paul Bloedhorn's jewelry shop. These seven postcards feature photographs from Ketchikan.
A: Black and white vertical postcard. Front has a photograph a winged totem pole. Trees and a small building in background. Totem has both stylized bird and human figures. White text along the lower edge reads: "THE RAVEN —FLOOD TOTEM KETCHIKAN ALASKA". Directly above this text is purple text stamped on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "T6" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". The number "6" is handwritten in pencil in the upper proper right corner.
B: Color vertical postcard. Front has an image of a totem pole standing in front of buildings. Along the upper edge there is black typed text reading: "15344. Chief Johnsons Totem and Residence, Ketchikan, Alaska." Verso has text in the upper proper left corner reading: "CHIEF JOHNSON'S TOTEM AND RESIDENCE \ Chief Johnson's totem is surmounted by the \ fabled bird Ka—juk. Below are two young birds \ of the same name. Still below is the eagle and \ the wolf. \ THIS SPACE FOR MESSAGE". Text just right of center reads: "POST CARD \ ADDRESS". In the upper proper right corner is the text "DOMESTIC: \ ONE CENT \ STAMP \ FOREIGN: \ TWO CENTS". The text is surrounded by a box. A vertical arrow extended from the lower edge and points to an illustration of a stylized person. The arrow has the initials "H H T CO". In the upper proper left corner there is black typed text reading: "15343. Totem Pole of Thlinget \ Chief Kian, Ketchikan, Alaska". Verso has text in the upper proper left corner reading: "TOTEM POLE OF THLINGET CHIEF KIAN \ One of the most noted of the Totem Poles \ of Ketchikan is the famous Totem Pole of \ Chief Kian. It is surmounted by the fabled \ bird Ka—juk. Bleow this bird is an eagle \ and below the eagle is the wolf. \ THIS SPACE FOR MESSAGE". Text just right of center reads: "POST CARD \ ADDRESS".
