Black and white photograph of two men standing next to each other in front of an arched doorway. The man on the proper left is wearing a jacket and gloves. He has his right arm around the shoulders of the other man. The man on the proper right is smoking a cigarette and has his left arm around the other man. They are standing on a planked wooden walkway. Both are looking toward the camera. The men are William (Bill) Alexander and James Joseph (Jimmie) Mattern.

Located in photo album (2013.08.011A). Attached to album page by corner tabs. White text on album page below photograph reads: "Alexander & Mattern". James Joseph (Jimmie) Mattern was an American aviator who made several attempts to circumnavigate the globe. William (Bill) Alexander was one of the men sent out to find Mattern when his plane went down between Siberia and Alaska.

The album belonged to William G. Brian Harland. He was a mechanic for Alaska—Washington Airways and Alaska Southern Airways. He was based out of Juneau.
