Humboldt Mill and Ebner Mill 017A
In 1892 William Webster and M.F. Lockwood set up the first stamp mill on the North Side of Gold Creek near the falls to crush ores from several mines in the Silver Bow Basin. When this did not prove profitable, they became miners themselves and staked the Humboldt claim on the hillside above the 5—stamp mill. The ore was brought to the mill by a bucket (overhead) tramway. The wire leading to their claim can barely be seen in the photo. Ebner's tipple is visible on the right and is a helpful point of reference in other photos.
