Description:
Set of nine (9) sample postcards from box (2014.11.034 A—B) used at Paul Bloedhorn's jewelry shop. These nine postcards feature photographs of Alaskan Natives.

A: Black and white horizontal postcard. Front has an image of a group of five (5) native woman and one (1) young girl. They are all sitting on a wooden doc with water in the background. The two women on the proper right are both doing bead or needle work. The two center woman and the child are watching. The woman on the far proper left is looking at the camera. There moccasins lined up in front of the women. White text below the shoes reads: "The Moccasin Maker." In the lower proper right corner is purple text stamped on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A158" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS".

B: Black and white horizontal postcard. Front has an image of a four (4) native babies in papoose carriers. They are stood up against a lattice fence with a wooden pole at center dividing the babies, two on the right ad two on the left. The image is two photographs of the same two children put side by side for comparison. The two babies on the proper right are looking to the proper right and seem to be content, while the two babies on the proper left are crying. White text labels the babies as "CALM and TEMPESTUOUS". At center along the lower edge is purple text stamped on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A156" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS".

C: Black and white horizontal postcard. Front has an image of a group of three (3) native woman. They are all standing and looking at the camera. They are dressed in fur coats with hoods. The background is indistinct. White text near the proper right corner reads: "325 \ Alaskan \ Belles." Along the proper right edge is purple text stamped sideways on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A352" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There is residual purple ink from another stamp on the back of the postcard over the center of the text.

D: Black and white horizontal postcard. Front has an image of a group of three (3) native female children. They are all standing and looking at the camera. They are dressed in kuspuks; one with a stripe patterned fabric and two with floral or star patterns. All three are holding one puppy in their right arm. The two children on the proper right are not smiling. The child on the proper left is smiling. The background is indistinct. White text along the lower edge reads: "Six Little Arctic Natives." In the lower proper right corner is purple text stamped on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A163" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS".

E: Black and white horizontal postcard. Front has an image of a group of six (5) native woman and one (1) young girl. The group is in front of a long structure with a window in the background. Five (5) of the women and the child are sitting, while the woman on the far proper left is standing. There are animal antlers at the center of the group. In the lower proper left corner there is an illustration of a scroll with the text: "ALASKA INDIANS". In the upper proper left corner is purple text stamped on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A143" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS".

F: Black and white horizontal postcard. Front has an image of a two native women in a canoe. Both woman hold paddles in the water on their left side. Between and around the woman are rugs or other rolled woven items. Along the lower edge is white text reading: "Indian Traders". In the upper properight corner is purple text stamped on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A159" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS".

G: Black and white horizontal postcard. Front has an image of a native woman weaving a basket. She is sitting against a wall and wearing a shawl bordered with buttons. There is an unfinished basket to her right on a wooden box. She is working on a basket and reed strands lie in front of her. In the lower proper right corner is white text reading: "Hoonah Native \ Basket Weaver". At approximately center is purple text stamped on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A162" handwritten in black ink. Most of the purple ink stamp is not visible against the dark postcard. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". There are two black horizontal lines between the "POST CARD" and "CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS".

H: Black and white vertical postcard. Front has an image of a small native boy standing behind and holding a husky puppy. He has his arms wrapped around the dog's neck. The dog is looking down and the boy is looking to the proper left. Both are standing on a wooden box. Background is nondescript. In the lower proper right corner is white text reading: "Copyright 1905 \ by F. H. Nowell \ Nome \ 4157". Along the lower edge is white text reading: "Holding on to a good thing." In the upper proper left corner is purple text stamped sideways on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE". On the line for the number is "A157" handwritten in black ink. One the back is black typed text reading: "SCENIC PHOTO PUBLISHING CO. SEATTLE WASH \ POST CARD \ CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS". I: Black and white vertical postcard. Front has an image of a woman dressed in furs with a child strapped to her back. The woman's hair appears to be in braids. Both the woman and the child are looking at the camera. The background is nondescript. In the lower proper right corner is white text reading: "Eskimo Woman and child". In the lower proper left corner is the copyright symbol above the name "MILLER". In the upper proper right corner is purple text stamped sideways on to the card which reads: "SAMPLE \ PLEASE ORDER BY NUMBER \ THIS IS NO. _______ \ Scenic Photo Publishing Co. \ 614 1st Ave. SEATTLE".
