Black and white photographic print of a ship from water level. A good portion of the ship's hull, the ship's cabin and the instrument mast are visible in the image. On the side of the cabin is the text "US AAF P 510". Next to the text is a circular lifesaver. Snow covered mountains are seen in the background along the proper left edge. Image has a white boarder around all four sides.There is a circular stamp located on the back of the image with text reading: "PASSED BY US BASE 1733 ARMY EXAMINER". Along the upper edge, handwritten in black ink is the text: "JIM HARTLEY".
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
