In 1898, Frank Hammond, superintendent of the Sheep Creek Mining Co, built the house with the commanding view of downtown Juneau. John Maloney, lawyer for the Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Co and founder of Juneau Cold Storage, bought the house and later sold it to Bartlett Lee Thane, manager of the Alaska Juneau Mining Co. Judge James Wickersham bought the house in 1928 and we know it today as the House of Wickersham.
