Scope & Content:
A — Diploma from Idaho State Normal School (Lewiston, Idaho) presented to Floyd Dryden. Diploma printed in black ink on white waxy paper with gold seal embossed in lower proper right corner and reads, in part, "Be it known that Floyd Dryden having satisfactorily completed the prescribed curriculum, and having given satisfactory evidence of good moral character and skill in teaching, has [...] been granted [...] this Junior High School Life Diploma and is hereby authorized to teach in any public school of the State of Idaho, in grades 7 to 9 inclusively, for life, or until his diploma is revoked by competent authority." Signed by Oliver M. Elliott, President of the Lewiston Normal School; Stanly A. Easton, President of the State Board of Education; and Elizabeth Russum, Commissioner of Education. Certificate is folded in half and affixed to blue suede cover by single strap of blue suede. Cover is lined in white, ribbed, watered—silk—like fabric mounted on cardboard; printed in gold on cover are the words "Idaho State / Normal School / Lewiston, Idaho" with embossed pattern of lines around words.
B — Tucked into diploma is 4 inch x 5.5 inch piece of white paper with the typewritten words "TERRITORY OF ALASKA / Department of Education/ To: Thomas Floyd Dryden / Juneau Alaska / Attached is your Alaska Teacher's Certificate No: LA 237 / Valid until: For life / Based on: B.A. in Education; five—year diploma — University of Washington: sufficient hours and proper courses in Education. Sufficient experience as an Alaskan administrator." Signed by Don M. Dafoe, Commissioner of Education.
C — Sheet of very thin white tissue paper is folded around note.
