A: Typed letter reading: "Dear Dorothea: Your letter received and greatly enjoyed and answer will follow shortly. Today this is just a line for I want you to have a first flight airmail letter from Alaska. No special stamps were issued for the flight. Keep the envelope since that is what will count. Phillip may want it for his stamp collection if he has one. Love to your sister. Tell her I often think of her visit to the North country. Much love from us all to you, and we miss you MUCH:". Signature is handwritten. First name is indiscernible but the last name is "Friend". In the lower proper right corner is a handwritten date of "June Twentieth".
B: Envelope for letter. Edges of envelope have a red and blue striped pattern. In the upper proper left corner is a 6 cent orange "U.S. POSTAGE VIA AIR MAIL" postage stamp featuring an illustration of an airplane. There are six horizontal lines across orange stamp. Directly to the proper right of postage stamp is another black stamp with text reading: "JUNEAU \ JUN 21 \ 8 AM \ 1940 \ ALASKA". In the lower proper rigth corner is a green stamp commemorating the first U.S. Air mail route between Seattle and Juneau. In the lower proper right is the addresee's information. On the back is the same blue and red striped pattern along edges. Along the proper right edge are two black stamps. One with the number "59" and one with text reading: "NEWTON CENTER \ JUN 25 \ 11 PM \ MASS". Along the upper edge at the cent of the envelope's flap is handwritten text reading; "E.A. F. \ Bay 1991 \ Juneau \ Alaska".
