Scope & Content:
White paper envelope commemmorating Alaska's statehood. Written on back in large red and blue letters: "49TH STATE OF THE UNION" with red, white, and blue map of Alaska underneath and "ALASKA" printed in lower proper right corner. Two stamps in upper proper left corner of back of envelope — proper right stamp, for seven cents, is printed in shades of blue with map of Alaska and stars from state flag against a background of mountains; stamp reads "U.S. AIR MAIL" and "ALASKA STATEHOOD 1959". Proper left stamp, for four cents, is printed with tricolor American flag and words "LONG MAY IT WAVE"; caption reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Postmarked "Juneau / Jan 3 / 9 am / 1959 / Alaska" and "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE". Typewritten on proper left side of back of envelope: "Mr. & Mrs. T. F. Dryden / Peck, Idaho".
