Thirteen (13) letters written by Virginia Sutton to her Mother

A: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her "Dear Mother so far away" from Juneau, Alaska. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pencil on one side of seven (7) pieces of lined paper. Each page has the page's number written at the top. Each page is 8" in height and 5" wide. Pages one (1) and two (2) are attached to each other by adhesive along the top edge. Pages three (3) through six (6) are attached to each other by adhesive along the top edge.

B: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her "Precious Mother" from Juneau, Alaska on March 13, 1920. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pencil on one side of four (4) pieces of lined paper. Each page has the page's number written at the top. Each page is 9.875" in height and 7.875" wide. Pages are folded three times horizontally and one time vertically.

C: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on February 15, 1920. Letter is handwritten in cursive with ink on both sides of one (1) sheet of lined paper. The paper is 10" in height and 7.875" wide. Pages are folded into thirds horizontally and once vertically.

D: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on February 7, 1920. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pencil on both sides of one (1) sheet of lined paper. The paper is 6.625" in height and 10.375" wide. Pages are folded once horizontally and twice vertically. The back has "X"s and "O"s written in green and red crayon.

E: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on January 23, 1920. Letter is handwritten in cursive with ink and pencil on one side of two (2) pieces of lined paper. Each page is 12.375" in height and 7.875" wide. Pages are folded four times horizontally and once vertically.

F: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska. Letter is handwritten in cursive with ink. Letter consists of six (6) one—sided pages of writing on unlined paper and a seventh page that has a drawing on one side and text on the other. Each page is 8" in height and 4.875" wide. Pages are folded twice horizontally. There is a loss of paper at the top of each sheet. The drawing is Christmas themed with a tree, gifts and holy and is drawn with red, green, blue, brown, black and yellow crayon. Text in the drawing reads: "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL XMAS \ A \ MERRY \ X— MAS."

G: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on December 4, 1919. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pencil on both sides of one (1) sheet of unlined paper. The paper is 10" x 6.375". Page is folded once horizontally and once vertically.

H: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on December 3, 1919. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pencil on both sides of two (2) sheets of unlined paper. One piece of paper is 10" x 6.378" which is folded once horizontally and once vertically. The second piece of paper is 5" x 6.375" and is folded once horizontally.

I: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on November 24, 1919. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pencil on one side of five (5) pieces of lined paper. Each page has the page's number written at the top in Roman numerals. Each page is 8" in height and 5" wide and are folded into horizontal thirds. Pages one (1) and two (2) are attached to each other by adhesive along the top edge as are pages three (3) and four (4). Pages four (4) and five (5) also have writing on the back. On the front of page number one (1) there is a residue with the reverse imprint of a one cent coin.

J: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on October 16, 1919. Letter is handwritten in cursive with ink on both sides of one (1) sheet of lined paper. The piece of paper is 10.375" x 6.5" and is folded three times horizontally and once vertically.

K: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on September 26, 1919. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pencil on both sides of one (1) sheet of lined paper. The piece of paper is 12.5" x 8" and is folded four times horizontally and once vertically.

L: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on September 17, 1919. Letter is handwritten in cursive with ink on both sides of one (1) sheet of lined paper. The piece of paper is 10" x 8" and is folded twice horizontally and twice vertically.

M: Letter written by Virginia Sutton to her mother from Juneau, Alaska on January 2, 1919. Letter is handwritten in cursive with pen on both sides of one (1) sheet of unlined paper. The paper is 10" x 6.375". Page is folded once horizontally and once vertically.

Notes:
Items are from the estate of Virginia Sutton White. The Sutton Family lived in Juneau between 1915—1920 (approximately). Virginia's father was Marion Sylvester Sutton, the architect of the Juneau Public School finished in 1920. Marion Sylvester Sutton died in 1935. Virginia Sutton White died in 1995, leaving her estate to her step—daughter, Mrs. Kalaas (wife of donor).
